I’ve been testing the Nothing Ear (A) true wireless earbuds for the past month, and here’s my no-frills take on whether they’re worth your hard-earned cash.

What I Love

  1. Transparent Design: Nothing’s signature clear-shell look carries over to the Ear (A), giving them a futuristic vibe that stands out from the sea of black-and-white buds.
  2. Comfortable Fit: With three silicone tip sizes and a lightweight build, they stayed snug during my morning runs and long work calls.
  3. Balanced Sound: The 12.4 mm drivers deliver punchy bass without drowning out mids and highs. Tracks like “Blinding Lights” felt lively, while podcasts remained crystal clear.
  4. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): At this price point (~$99), the ANC isn’t flagship-level, but it effectively cuts out office chatter and airplane hum.
  5. Battery Life: You’ll get about 7 hours per charge with ANC off (6 hours with ANC on), plus two full top-ups from the compact charging case—enough to power you through a couple of days of commuting.

Room for Improvement

  1. Touch Controls: Sometimes temperamental—double-taps occasionally fail, and there’s no way to remap gestures beyond the basics in the app.
  2. App Features: The Nothing X app offers EQ presets and firmware updates, but it lacks a customizable EQ curve or spatial audio options found on more expensive models.
  3. Mic Quality: The earbuds’ mics handle voice calls fine in quiet settings, but wind and street noise can make you sound a bit distant outdoors.

Should You Buy Them?

If you want earbuds that look unique, sound great for most genres, and won’t break the bank, the Nothing Ear (A) are a solid pick. They strike a sweet spot between style, comfort, and performance. Just temper your expectations around advanced app features and microphone performance.

Overall Verdict: For under $100, the Ear (A) deliver excellent value. They’re perfect for design lovers and daily commuters who want a bit of flair without sacrificing core functionality.
